Defenders helped pass a
breakthrough bill banning key predator poisons – Compound 1080, strychnine and
thallium sulfate – on public lands during the Nixon administration, which in
turn sparked a 1972 reduction of their use on private lands. In 1982, Defenders led a coalition that
fought the Reagan administration’s move to lift this valuable ban.
