Digital Fundraising Associate

BASIC SUMMARY:

Defenders of Wildlife is a leading environmental non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities. The Digital Fundraising Associate is responsible for helping to develop and then manage the execution of Defenders’ email and mobile campaigns on behalf of the Integrated Marketing department.

The Digital Fundraising Associate works closely with the Senior Director of Retention to execute strategy, segmentation, messaging and testing plans, and works with our implementation staff to get the materials to market. This position is also the key point of contact and copywriter for our targeted field and outreach work, on behalf of Integrated Marketing, helping field staff to engage with constituents via event sign-up and targeted action alerts.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Executes Defenders of Wildlife email campaigns:

  • Works with Senior Director of Retention to help create strategies to meet organizational, departmental and team goals including the creation and execution of testing and segmentation plans, the identification of key audiences and key performance indicators (KPI’s).

  • Stays current with best practices, strategies, and industry standards related to email and champion continuous advancement of our email features and capabilities including targeting, personalization, and template development in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

  • Monitors email deliverability and file counts to ensure any irregularities are caught and addressed in a timely manner.

  • Works with the Senior Director of Retention, outside consultants and internal HQ and Field staff to identify narrative story arcs and direct messaging appropriate for each audience and strategy.

  • Edits and circulates all email copy partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure messaging accuracy and integrity. 

  • Manages copy and review deadlines in coordination with multiple departments and vendors to support the timely release of work product.

  • May be called upon to draft email copy in support of team goals.

  • Works with the Digital Campaigns Producer to QC production and execution of all emails.

  • Makes recommendations for improvements and to grow the effectiveness of the program.

Constituent Outreach Liaison

  • Actively maintains the email schedule for state, local and regional alerts. This includes scheduling and prioritizing according to the needs of the budget, department and requester.

  • Serves as the key point of contact for field and outreach staff in requesting and scheduling targeted outreach emails including events and actions.

  • Responsible for drafting email copy and associated web copy for requested targeted emails.

  • Coordinates with the Website Director to publish events and actions on defenders.org, as appropriate.

  • Work with the social media team within Integrated Marketing to coordinate targeted event and action promotion.

  • Be familiar with and monitor staff’s compliance with Defenders data privacy policy and messaging guidelines as it relates to constituent emails, coalitions and list serves.

  • Serve as Integrated Marketing’s liaison with our events and outreach policy, especially as it relates to online promotion and messaging.

Manage Defenders’ mobile program:

  • Works with the Senior Director of Retention and vendor-partners to create mobile goals, strategy and appropriate content that integrates with Defenders’ other messaging streams.

  • Helps to create tactically-sound campaigns in support of strategy including messaging, asks, copy, timing, landing page content and any other supporting collateral. This includes scheduling, coordination of messages, copywriting and routing/editing of all mobile communications.

  • Helps to review messages for errors and appropriate flow and user experience.

  • In collaboration with the rest of Defenders’ web and digital teams, recommends needs and improvements to Defenders’ web properties to improve the mobile and tablet user experience.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in related discipline

Experience: 

  • 3+ years of experience working on digital fundraising and advocacy campaigns

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Successful candidates will have: 

  • Excellent email fundraising and advocacy writing skills.

  • Highly organized with an extraordinarily efficient, thorough work style

  • A knack for online fundraising and knowledge of best practices.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and effectively meet deadlines.\

  • Proactive problem-solver.

  • Self-motivated and independent with an ability to take a task and see it through to completion.

  • Outstanding email editing skills. 

  • Understanding of A/B testing and email optimization.

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to occasionally work non-routine work hours

  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of general conservation/environmental issues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and communicate with others while doing so. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General office working conditions, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

SALARY RANGE:

  • Up To $53,000
