Areas of Expertise: North Atlantic right whale, bison restoration, red knot, Florida panther, black-footed ferret, hellbender, Colorado gray wolf reintroduction, red wolf, Montana grizzly bears, Okefenokee Swamp, Florida Sentinel Landscapes, manatees, sea turtles, bear and wolf coexistence, and Gulf of Mexico whale.

Jake Bleich joined Defenders of Wildlife in May 2019, bringing several years of communications experience in electoral politics and federal agencies. He provides communications strategy and support to Defenders’ Southeast and Rocky Mountains and Great Plains field offices, working to share stories on a variety of imperiled species and habitats. He also assists with bringing attention to several critically endangered whale species.

He previously worked as a media relations fellow at the National Park Service, and an organizer and social media manager on several state and federal political campaigns. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Colby College.
