Julie’s deep appreciation for nature and wildlife comes from being a born-and-raised Seattleite; camping, kayaking, and hiking are a natural part of life in the Pacific Northwest.

Her 15-year career as an HR professional has been primarily focused within the nonprofit sector, which include serving as the Vice President of Human Resources at Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, an agency dedicated to fighting the crisis of homelessness, and Director of Talent Management at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. At Defenders, Julie is responsible for the overall workforce development strategy and the integration of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice best practices into Defenders’ operations and culture. She holds a B.A. in Integrated Social Sciences from the University of Washington and an MBA from Georgetown University.
