Haley McKey

Communications Specialist

Haley McKey joined the Defenders team in 2012 after working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. As a communications specialist, her beat areas include the Endangered Species Act, Florida panthers, red wolves and government appropriations, as well as international conservation issues such as wildlife trafficking.

In addition to her writing duties drafting press releases, blogs and editorials, she creates and executes social media advertising campaigns, assists with grant proposals and manages the communications intern.

Haley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, with a focus on conservation and evolutionary biology. Her love of nature and time spent studying wildlife in the field have helped prepared her to write relatably about policy and endangered species protection.
