Alejandra Goyenechea

Former Senior International Counsel

Areas of Expertise: Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), Trade and the Environment in Latin America.

Alejandra's primary focus was in CITES, CMS, RFMO's, wildlife trafficking and other international wildlife conservation issues, with an emphasis on Latin America. She has worked at several international institutions and organizations and has experience in wildlife policy. During her work with the Mexican government she represented the Environmental Enforcement Agency at the international level. She also has interned or worked at the Organization of American States, the UNEP North American office, and the DC law firm Baker Botts. Alejandra earned her law degree at ITAM, Mexico, and a Masters degree, LLM, in International Environmental Law, at the Washington College of Law at American University, with a Fullbright scholarship. She has been invited to serve multiple times as judge to the Stetson’s International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition and as a panelist on international wildlife conservation at various forums
 
She speaks fluent English, Spanish and French.
