Internships

© Lacy Gray / Defenders of WildlifeBegin your journey into the world of conservation, with real-world projects and experience, with an internship at Defenders!

Defenders of Wildlife is a national, non-profit membership organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities.

We offer a variety of internship opportunities throughout the year and across the country – from our headquarters in Washington D.C. to our various field offices.

As an intern at Defenders, you will work with experts in the communications, operations, legal, policy and wildlife conservation fields, all working to save species on the brink of extinction. You will gain meaningful, first-hand experience to develop your skills and help you build a successful career in wildlife conservation.

Defenders of Wildlife welcomes current students, recent graduates and other interested individuals to apply for our available internship opportunities! Be sure to check back regularly as we routinely update this page with new internship opportunities.

Defenders of Wildlife values the unique perspectives and backgrounds of our employees and interns, and we believe in the diversity of our workforce.  It is the policy of Defenders of Wildlife to provide equal employment opportunity to all qualified individuals without regard to their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity (including gender expression), sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, family/parental status, or any other characteristic protected by law, in all personnel actions.

We believe that we are also diverse in our characteristics and experiences.  Defenders welcomes and celebrates all differences including differences of thought and opinion.  We recognize that conservation of biological diversity is best advanced by the contributions of people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and cultures.  In our efforts to be inclusive and to expand diversity, we strive to provide additional support to people that might experience additional and unfair barriers as the result of difference.
