Deterring Foxes from your Property:

Never Feed or Approach Foxes

Don’t risk your safety by getting too close! Make sure to never approach dens or kits as well.

Fencing Your Property

Bury an L-shaped footer around the chosen perimeter, and consider electric fencing

Secure Food, Garbage and Recycling

Foxes will be attracted to any garbage left available.

Never Leave Pet Food Outdoors

Feed your pets indoors if possible. Take your bowls and food bags inside.

Characteristics of Gray Foxes:

  • Smaller than red foxes
  • Gray coloration, stripes of orangey/red across the ears, legs, and tail.

 

What to do if you see a fox:

While seeing a fox is a very exciting opportunity for anyone who loves wildlife, if you are afraid of a fox in your presence there are steps you can take: 

Be Big and Loud

Known as hazing, making loud noises and making yourself appear threatening is the most common advice for deterring wildlife.
