Defenders of Wildlife today released its 2024 Conservation Report Card for the 118th Congress assessing the commitment of U.S. senators and representatives to wildlife and habitat conservation. The report card reviews fifteen House votes and four Senate votes with serious implications for wildlife, habitats and the environment.
“The Conservation Report Card is a critical resource to educate constituents about their representatives’ votes,” said Robert Dewey, vice president of government relations at Defenders. “In the last Congress and again this year, there have been many votes that would undermine or dismantle the laws and agencies safeguarding American wildlife and natural habitats. It is more important than ever that constituents know where their members stand and voice their support for wildlife and endangered species protections to their representatives.”
Defenders also expressed appreciation for the members of Congress who voted to conserve public lands and wildlife protections.
“The elected representatives casting votes for conservation and against wildlife destruction are making an enormous positive impact toward our country’s lands and environment,” said Dewey. “Defenders thanks them for their commitment and urges all allies of wildlife to step forward, whether it is through civic action or advocacy.”
