Last week, 13 activists from across the country joined us in D.C. for our Capitol Hill Lobby Day fly-in. Coming from Central New York, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New Mexico, these passionate wildlife defenders gathered at our headquarters for a day of intense training on the key issues affecting wildlife today, specifically Congressional assaults on the Endangered Species Act and threats to our national forests. Our citizen lobbyists participated in 24 meetings with their U.S. Senators and Representatives, speaking directly to their elected officials, educating staff on key issues facing wildlife today, and urging them to be vocal leaders on defending the Endangered Species Act and the wildlife that relies on its protections.

“Going to DC to lobby for the Defenders of Wildlife was a very exciting opportunity and I was honored to represent CO. Meeting with the staff members of our Senators and Congressmen/woman from our districts to discuss wildlife conservation and protecting our national forests was truly a great experience. By meeting them face to face, I hope I have in some way swayed their decision making.”
–Christine Tapparo, Loveland, CO

“As a longtime member of Defenders, I was thrilled to get the chance to do more than just donate money. Not only was it a privilege for me to be able to give our precious wildlife a voice on Capitol Hill, but also to meet Defenders staff members and other passionate wildlife advocates.”
–Linda Barcus, Monument, CO

“It was an experience in which, even if it were only for that day, I felt like I was making a true difference for the beautiful innocent souls that are around us.”
– Jordan Jones-Potts, Pueblo, CO

Defenders of Wildlife’s team of citizen advocates works throughout the country to promote pro-wildlife policies, share our priorities with elected officials, and encourage media coverage of threats to wildlife.
