Dr. Tim Tinker will share how scientists have used the history of the North Pacific fur trade as a “natural experiment” to better understand sea otter and nearshore ecology, behavior, genetics, and cultural importance. This presentation, given in memory of Dr. Jim Estes, will highlight key lessons learned, the challenges of studying an ongoing species recovery, and exciting emerging questions.
