Defenders of Wildlife praised President Biden for establishing Castner Range National Monument in El Paso, Texas. This national monument protects nearly 318 acres of land with significant cultural value from new development and conserves habitat for threatened species and rare plants.
“We strongly support today’s action by the Biden administration to establish Castner Range National Monument, which will preserve habitat connectivity and improve equitable access to nature,” said Bryan Bird, Southwest Field Director for Defenders of Wildlife. “This designation conserves unique cultural and biologically diverse lands in Texas and threatened species like the peregrine falcon and Texas horned lizard.”
In a state where less than 5% of lands are open to the public, this designation significantly increases the lands available for recreation in the future and improves opportunities for the local community to access and connect with nature.
