Hawk Hammer joined Defenders of Wildlife in May 2021 after working as an Emmy-nominated reporter for news stations in Washington, New York and Montana.

He provides communications support, strategy and coverage for Defenders' advocacy and legal work as the lead point of contact for Defenders' government relations department including the Endangered Species Act and other key legislation, international efforts, land conservation, as well as our Center for Conservation Innovation and National Biodiversity Strategy campaign.

He attended the University of California, Davis, and graduated with degrees in Communication, Wildlife Fish and Conservation Biology and Political Science. He received his JD from Syracuse University College of Law.
