Hawk Hammer joined Defenders of Wildlife in May 2021, bringing several years of experience in communications and journalism with him. Prior to joining Defenders, he was an Emmy-nominated reporter for news stations in Washington, New York and Montana.

He provides communications support, strategy and coverage for Defender’s advocacy and legal work as the lead point of contact on the Endangered Species Act and Recovering America’s Wildlife Act as well as international conservation efforts. Additionally, he’s very excited to be bringing attention to the cutting-edge research and projects coming out of the Center for Conservation Innovation.

He attended the University of California, Davis and graduated with degrees in Wildlife Fish and Conservation Biology, Political Science and Communication.
