Legal Internships

Defenders of Wildlife offers Internship positions in our Legal division in both Washington, DC and Denver, CO for highly qualified individuals with a commitment to a career in wildlife conservation.

These legal internships are designed to provide a range of legal and programmatic experience on conservation issues of national significance. Over the course of this internship, participants will develop their legal research, writing, and analytical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of federal statutes, regulations, and court precedent. Interns will occasionally attend available hearings, seminars, and working meetings to develop and implement strategies. This is an opportunity to work closely with seasoned litigators and conservation professionals on a wide variety of projects and gain valuable experience.

Applicants should be current law students with an interest in environmental law. They must have strong writing, research, media, and communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and protection of wildlife. Internships are for credit and unpaid.

Please reference Legal Intern Applicant in your subject line, and submit a letter of interest along with your resume, writing sample, list of references, and a copy of your law school transcript (unofficial accepted) to us via e-mail at:

Applications are received year round for fall and spring part-time interns, full-time externs, and full-time summer clerks.
