Brooke Leonard is Director of Board Operations at Defenders of Wildlife. With nearly two decades of experience in the nonprofit and association sectors, she specializes in building the structures and practices that enable strong governance, effective board oversight and strategic leadership in mission-driven organizations.

Prior to joining Defenders, Brooke served as Chief of Staff at the League of Women Voters, where she oversaw the operations of affiliated 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) boards and advised a national network of state and local Leagues on complex governance matters. Before that, she led strategic initiatives and directed executive, staff and board operations as Chief of Staff at the American Alliance of Museums.

Brooke holds certificates in Nonprofit Board Education and Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource, a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College and an M.A. from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
