Joseph joined Defenders after working in the Law and Policy Section of the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division. In that role, he both litigated and managed the Department’s engagement on policy issues ranging from fisheries management to protection of tribal cultural artifacts. 

Prior to his time with ENRD served as a law clerk for Chief Justice Gordan MacDonald of the New Hampshire Supreme Court and taught environmental law as an Adjunct Professor at Boston College Law School. A life-long environmental advocate, Joseph worked for Ceres, a climate and sustainability advocacy organization before law school and he held volunteer leadership roles with the Sierra Club for nearly ten years. 

Joseph received his law degree from Boston College Law School, a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Boston College.
