
Maddy Munson
Conservation PolicyMaddy joined Defenders in 2025. She works to defend, strengthen, and expand federal law, policy, and practice to improve wildlife conservation and recovery on federal lands, with a focus on the National System of Public Lands (aka lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management) and the Department of Interior.
Before joining Defenders, Maddy served as a Staff Attorney and Federal Policy Director at Wild Montana and held roles at other environmental nonprofits, gaining experience at the intersection of law, public lands policy, and on-the-ground conservation. She is admitted to the Montana and Idaho State Bars and holds a J.D. and Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from Lewis & Clark Law School, as well as a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Public Policy from the University of Oregon. During law school, she was a member of the Earthrise Environmental Law Clinic and the Northwest Environmental Defense Center, and served as Executive Editor of Environmental Law Review.
