Today, the White House released a report detailing the progress of the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force. The report emphasized the need for a unified course of action on climate change adaptation, recommending key components to a national strategy.

The following is a statement from Noah Matson, vice president for Climate Change and Natural Resource Adaptation at Defenders of Wildlife.

“In acknowledging the necessity of a national climate adaptation strategy the government demonstrates it is ready to move forward in addressing the consequences of climate change already occurring across the country. Our nation’s fish and wildlife resources are particularly vulnerable.

“It is imperative that a national policy include adaptation measures for fish and wildlife resources already suffering from the effects of climate change, as urged in the most recent Interior appropriations bill and proposed in multiple bills that have advanced in Congress. We look forward to seeing a natural resource component in the comprehensive plan developed by the Task Force.”
