Washington, D.C. — Following is a statement from Defenders of Wildlife President Jamie Rappaport Clark on the news that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will resign and leave his post in March.

“In a time of very tight budgets, Secretary Salazar deserves the thanks of the American people for recognizing the critical need for an accelerated federal land acquisition program for our national parks and wildlife refuges. With his departure, we hope that his successor will be a strong advocate for wildlife conservation, an aggressive defender of our public lands, and a leader in how our public lands should be managed in light of climate change."
