Strategy focuses on cutting carbon emissions and community climate resilience

Washington, DC (June 25, 2013)--President Obama made a major announcement at Georgetown University today unveiling his new climate change action plan. The strategy includes putting in place new rules to cut carbon pollution, increasing climate resilience in communities, and leading global efforts to address climate change.

Below is a statement from Former Defenders of Wildlife President and CEO Jamie Rappaport Clark:

“President Obama is following through on his promise in his State of the Union address, when he pledged to take strong steps to fight climate change in the United States. Expanding our development of low-conflict renewable energy projects, supporting climate-resilient investments, restoring forests and rangeland to reduce the risk of wildfires and setting new standards for flood prevention will help wildlife, people and vulnerable landscapes around us withstand the impacts of a changing climate.

"The President’s climate action plan will reduce carbon pollution, reduce our dependency on dirty energy and address the adverse impacts we are already experiencing. This is exactly the type of comprehensive approach and bold leadership needed to meet this formidable challenge.”
