(Washington - July 18, 2017) Tomorrow, July 19th, the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources is holding a legislative hearing on five bills that would harm threatened and endangered species and erode our most important tool to save them from permanent extinction: the Endangered Species Act. Simultaneously, the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works will hold a hearing on the so-called “H.E.L.P for Wildlife” Act, which would end Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in the Great Lakes region and bar judicial review of wolf delisting in the Great Lakes and Wyoming.
Please join Congressman Raul Grijalva, ranking minority member of the Natural Resources committee; Jeff Corwin, wildlife biologist, author and television personality who will be testifying at the hearing; and Jamie Rappaport Clark, Former president and CEO of Defenders of Wildlife and former Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for a press conference prior to the hearings where they will discuss legislative attacks on the Act and the importance of preserving and protecting endangered species.
The press conference will be held at the U.S. Capitol’s House Triangle, on the House side of the Capitol’s East Front at 9:30am. Speakers will give brief opening remarks and then allow for reporter questions before heading directly into the House committee hearing.
