Nathan joined Defenders in 2022. He works to protect wildlife and their habitats by advocating for policies that uphold the mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System, the only system of federal lands and waters dedicated to wildlife conservation. Nathan previously worked in the environmental consulting industry, where he helped to ensure the compliance of major development projects with laws including the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. He also has expertise in avian ecology, having spent numerous seasons conducting bird-focused research at field sites throughout North America. Nathan earned a B.S in Zoology from Connecticut College and an M.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida.
