Defenders asked a team of graduate students from the University of Maryland to assess the potential use and inclusion of geospatial data within the recovery planning process. They created an example of a multi-layered, interactive map for the Utah prairie dog (Cynomys parvidens). Their prototype demonstrates the power of spatial tools for improving endangered species recovery. This report summarizes their work and outlines the challenges in creating such maps for other endangered species.
