Generating clean electricity from renewable sources, like the sun and wind, is one of the best ways to reduce pollution, slow down global climate change and help wildlife survive in a warming world. Here at Defenders, we’re working hard to help speed up our nation’s transition to a clean energy economy – and to make sure that renewable energy development is done right for wildlife.

Defenders’ president Rodger Schlickeisen sent this message to Congress today, urging our nation’s leaders to pass a law requiring power companies to gradually deliver more renewable energy to our homes and offices.

He writes on the National Journal’s blog: “A transition to a clean energy economy needs to happen fast, and a national RES [renewable energy standard] could help speed us along. Experts say that to avoid the worst effects of climate change, we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent over the next 40 years. To achieve this goal, we will need to maximize renewable energy potential and energy efficiency in the United States…”
