Denver, CO

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission today announced it will deny a petition to pause the state's voter-mandated gray wolf reintroduction program. Defenders of Wildlife's Colorado representative Kaitie Schneider issued the following response live from the Commission meeting:

"We are relieved the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission voted to deny the petition to delay the continued historic reintroduction of wolves to Colorado. CPW and its partners have provided ranching communities with a robust, comprehensive suite of resources, that has resulted in Colorado having one of the most extensive state wolf programs in the nation. CPW has the capacity, funding, and support from its partners to successfully restore this critical piece of our native heritage. As we head into 2025, Defenders remains steadfast in our support of helping livestock communities live and work alongside wolves in Colorado."
