WASHINGTON-The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a new regulation that would cut emissions from the over 600 power plants in the United States. Coal-fired power plants are the nation’s largest source of carbon pollution.
The following is a statement from Defenders of Wildlife’s former President and CEO Jamie Rappaport Clark:
“Climate change is real, it’s here, and it’s affecting our planet right now. Extreme storms are pummeling our coasts. Drought and wildfires are destroying homes and habitat alike. And our nation’s wildlife is feeling the adverse effects as well. It’s clear that we can’t afford to ignore or deny the impacts of climate change for one more moment.
“The EPA’s rules will help reduce the carbon pollution that causes global warming and it sends a message to the rest of the world that the United States takes the challenge of addressing climate change seriously. The Obama administration is to be commended for taking this courageous and important step.”
