Bureau of Land Management state offices posted draft revisions to the National Greater Sage-Grouse Planning Strategy today, proposing scads of new provisions that would undermine and eliminate key protections for greater sage-grouse on 60 million acres of public lands.

Jamie Rappaport Clark, president and CEO for Defenders of Wildlife, issued this statement:

“The Trump administration’s effort to sell out sage-grouse and the Sagebrush Sea for drilling and mining not only threatens wildlife, but also harms local communities and sustainable economies that depend on this landscape. The current conservation plans ensure a consistent, minimum level of protection for sage-grouse and other wildlife, while also accommodating regional priorities for land use and development. They should be given a chance to work."

For nearly 80 years, Defenders of Wildlife has worked to protect and restore America’s wildlife at risk of extinction, advancing a vision of a future in which wildlife thrives, sustained by broad public support and a resilient network of healthy lands and waters.
